Why Go Glamping in San Marcos?

San Marcos sits in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, halfway between Austin and San Antonio — and the farm puts you minutes from the best of it. Float the spring-fed, 72°F San Marcos River (tubing outfitters are about 15 minutes away), ride a glass-bottom boat over the springs at the Meadows Center (12 minutes), or tour Wonder World Cave (12 minutes). Gruene Hall and New Braunfels are about 20 minutes south, and the galleries and swimming holes of Wimberley are 25 minutes away. Downtown Austin is roughly a 45-minute drive.

Back at the farm, the evening is the main event: there are no city lights over the pasture, which makes the domes a favorite spot for stargazing in San Marcos. Soak in your private hot tub under the stars, then wake up to alpacas, goats, and mini horses outside your door. Browse our things-to-do guide for a full list of nearby river spots, restaurants, and day trips.

A Dome Stay in Texas Unlike Any Hotel

If you've been searching for a dome hotel in Texas, this is the Hill Country alternative: three private geodesic dome rentals spread across the pasture, each with its own hot tub, cowboy pool, and mini kitchen — no front desk, no shared walls, and alpacas for neighbors. It's glamping in San Marcos at its best, and one of the most unique places to stay in Texas, about 45 minutes from Austin and an hour from San Antonio.

Domes Near Austin — and How Far You Actually Drive

The farm sits straight down I-35 in San Marcos, which puts our geodesic domes about 45 minutes from Austin and roughly an hour from San Antonio — close enough for a Friday-night arrival after work, far enough that the sky over the pasture actually goes dark. If you're comparing dome rentals near Austin, that drive time is usually the deciding factor.

These are geodesic domes, not inflatable bubble domes: insulated, climate-controlled, and comfortable in August heat as well as a January cold front. Every dome is bookable right here — no need to hunt for a dome Airbnb in Texas, and booking direct means no OTA service fees. Planning the rest of the trip? San Marcos Glamping FAQ

Where is The Farm Texas glamping site located?

Our glamping domes sit on a 15-acre working farm at 4602 South Old Bastrop Highway in San Marcos, Texas — between Austin (about 45 minutes) and San Antonio, minutes from downtown San Marcos and Texas State University.

How far is the glamping site from the San Marcos River?

About 15 minutes. Tubing outfitters on the spring-fed San Marcos River are a short drive away, and the Meadows Center glass-bottom boat tours at Spring Lake are roughly 12 minutes from the farm.

What's included in a glamping dome stay?

Every dome includes a king bed, private bathroom, private hot tub, cowboy pool, kitchenette, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and heating. The Haven accommodates two guests; The Jungle and The Stargazer each accommodate up to four with a king bed and pull-out couch. The Stargazer's pull-out couch is full-size.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is at 4 PM and check-out is at 11 AM for all three domes.

How far are the domes from Austin?

About 45 minutes from Austin, depending on traffic. The farm is south on I-35 in San Marcos, between Austin and San Antonio.

How is a dome stay different from a hotel?

Unlike a dome hotel or resort, each geodesic dome at The Farm Texas is a private, standalone rental on a 15-acre working farm. You get your own hot tub, cowboy pool, and mini kitchen — plus resident alpacas, goats, and mini horses instead of hallways and lobbies. It's one of the most unique places to stay in Texas.

Are these bubble domes or geodesic domes?

They are geodesic domes — rigid, insulated, climate-controlled structures with a panoramic window wall, not inflatable bubble domes. That means they stay comfortable through Texas summers and cold snaps alike, while you still get the wide-open sky view a bubble dome is known for.

Can I book the domes without going through Airbnb?

Yes. Choose a dome to view its photos and details, then enter your dates and guest count to check availability and the total price, including fees and taxes, before booking directly with The Farm Texas.

    Are the glamping domes pet-friendly?

Yes. The Haven, The Jungle, and The Stargazer all welcome pets. The pet fee is $100 per stay for each dome. One pet is allowed per stay. A second pet requires approval before arrival, with no additional pet fee. Please include your pet when booking and keep pets leashed around our farm animals.
